A few svAWIS board and general members recently got involved as volunteers with the Girl Scouts STEM MakerSpace in Sacramento (https://www.girlscoutshcc.org/en/about-girl-scouts/STEMCenter.html). The space was built for the purpose of empowering girls to get excited and interested in STEM fields and includes opportunities for hands-on learning in many science and engineering categories. There are workshops offered after school hours and on weekends every week, from building an earthquake proof fort for a stuffed animal to coding robots to solving mysteries with forensic science to 3-D printing. We were blown away by the space and the vision they have to bring STEM education to girls in California. We look forward to getting even more AWIS members volunteering with this awesome organization in the future!
