On November 19, 2015, we had a mentorship kick-off event hosted by Monsanto in Woodland. Mentors and mentees met one another and networked with other mentorship program participants over snacks and drinks while discussing their expectations for the program.
In our second mentorship event on February 25, 2016, we watched a TedX talk by Uche Ofodile on how successful women can replicate their success through mentoring, went over ways to improve mentorship skills, and played logic puzzles in groups. Logic Puzzles: We played a game where we split into pairs and one person was asked to build a duck out of legos and their partner was not allowed to see it. A picture was taken of the lego duck and the other partner now had to build the same duck based only on the instructions from their partner! It was a fun exercise on communication because the hardest part was explaining how to place the legos to build the duck to your partner. The pictures below are of the different ducks our groups made with roughly the same legos:
